Worldwide Day of Play

A Proclamation
September 19, 2007

WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama join Nickelodeon, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in celebrating the Worldwide Day of Play ensuring that today’s generation of kids will become one of the healthiest; and

WHEREAS, the Worldwide Day of Play is an entire day dedicated to being active and healthy living, which encourages kids and their families to enjoy a full day of exercise and fun in their communities; and

WHEREAS, childhood obesity is a serious issue threatening today’s youth and many of our children and adults do not get as much physical activity as they should; and

WHEREAS, physical activity and good eating habits are important components to living a healthy lifestyle and reducing obesity related illnesses and disease; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is committed to encouraging today’s youth in becoming the healthiest generation; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 29, 2007, as the

Worldwide Day of Play

in the State of Alabama and encourage all Alabamians to recognize and support all of the organizations and individuals associated with making this endeavor a reality.
