Day of Kids, September 16, 2006 WHEREAS, the children of Alabama are the foundation on which our future success is built; and WHEREAS, children seek parents, mentors and friends to aid them in reaching important goals; and WHEREAS, families and communities play vital roles in helping children develop a positive self image, sense of belonging and a sense of competence; and WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids is a special day set aside each year to encourage and remind adults that the meaningful time they share with children is important to their development; and WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids Honor Roll, comprised of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and other youth serving organizations, together reach millions of youth via their services and community involvement; and WHEREAS, Boys & girls Clubs Day for Kids emphasizes the importance of meaningful time spent with kids on this Day and every day, all year long; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 16, 2006, as Day of Kids in the State of Alabama.
