NASCAR Day, 2005 WHEREAS, May 20, 2005 is the second annual NASCAR Day, a one-day celebration of the NASCAR spirit; and
WHEREAS, the mission of NASCAR Day is to encourage individuals and corporations involved in NASCAR to join together to support NASCAR-related charities; and WHEREAS, NASCAR Day is a charity initiative to raise money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a designated charity of NASCAR established to provide fun and memorable camping experiences to chronically ill children, Speedway Children’s Charities, and Speediatrics, which are all NASCAR related children’s charities; and WHEREAS, on this day, NASCAR fans everywhere are encouraged to wear NASCAR clothing, and those who make a donation to the Victory Junction Gang will receive a special NASCAR Day lapel pin they can wear to show their support; and WHEREAS, the great State of Alabama is home to Talladega Superspeedway, which is the biggest, fastest, most competitive motorsports facility on the NASCAR circuit, where records for both speed and competition have been established for thirty-five years; and WHEREAS, Talladega, Alabama is also home to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, which are open daily: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 20, 2005, as NASCAR Day in the State of Alabama and encourage the citizens of Alabama to show their support.
