Intergeneration Day, 2003 WHEREAS, Intergeneration Day is a special day set aside the First Sunday of October. The Fourth Annual National Intergeneration Day will take place on October 5, 2003, culminating Intergeneration Activities Week starting on September 29, 2003; and
WHEREAS, there are few opportunities for meaningful age-intergrated relationships, with children in childcare or schools, adults in the workplace, and older adults in care and senior living residences; and WHEREAS, individual, family and community success will rise through an ongoing effort to relate and share ideas, values and experiences with people from different generations; and WHEREAS, our youth and elders benefit from contact with each other, as isolation an generational fear are reduced; and WHEREAS, culture, history, traditions and values are transferred from one generation to the next when meaningful contact exists between young and old; and WHEREAS, Intergeneration Day brings together people of different backgrounds and ages together in celebration of the many generations of our citizens; and WHEREAS, Intergeneration Foundation, is a nonprofit 500(c)(3) public charity committed to promoting Intergeneration Day/Activities Week; and WHEREAS, citizens of Alabama are encouraged to reach out to people of other generations through letters, phone calls, and activities in their communities: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 5, 2003, as Intergeneration Day in the State of Alabama and encourage the citizens of Alabama to show their support.
