National Gymnastics Day, 2003 WHEREAS, collectively, our nation strives to encourage greatness and achievement in our young people; and
WHEREAS, National Gymnastics Day, presented by Mrs. Smith’s Fliplt Cake, seeks to introduce the value of physical fitness for every age, race, gender and ability level; and WHEREAS, Gymnastics provides a great foundation and offers skills for a lifetime; and WHEREAS, USA Gymnastics is celebrating National Gymnastics Day on August 2, 2003 to help bring attention to the sport of gymnastics and to encourage and promote physical fitness; and WHEREAS, on National Gymnastics Day, gymnastics clubs across the United States partner with USA Gymnastics to heighten the visibility of the sport and encourage participation at the grassroots level; and WHEREAS, participation in gymnastics is a fun way to build strength, flexibility and coordination and enhance self-esteem and goal-setting abilities; and WHEREAS, National Gymnastics Day aims to serve the greater community ideals to provide comfort to children who are unable to provide for themselves by raising funds and awareness for the Children’s Miracle Network: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 2, 2003, as National Gymnastics Day in the State of Alabama and encourage the citizens of Alabama to show their support.
