May 14, 2008 Governor Riley Orders Flags on State Buildings Lowered to Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley has ordered flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff on Thursday to mark Peace Officers Memorial Day in Alabama. The Governor is also encouraging schools and local governments to lower flags on their facilities. We recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. They bring honor to our system of justice and make Alabama a better place, Governor Riley said. President Bush issued a proclamation declaring May 15 Peace Officers Memorial Day around the country. Flags on all federal buildings will be flown at half-staff to honor law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty. | |
